Nasutitermes exitiosus M2
Description

We sampled this mound in March 2019. The mound was built just a few metres away from a busy road in the north outskirts of Sydney. It is not uncommon for Nasutitermes exitiosusnests to be found in urbanized areas, also at latitudes more distant from the tropics than many other Nasutitermestermites. This specimen was not very active at the time of collection.

Below a hard and relatively thick external crust of clay or soil, the internal structure is similar to that of other Nasutitermes, with curved surfaces locally interconnected with saddle-shaped junctions. The building material is similar to clay.
